Copying master works is a great experience, try it!

In the past, I've occasionally copied master works including those by artists I really admire like John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer...

Belford Harbor, NJ

March 25, Sunday:

Spent the last few hours (wow! from 1 to almost 6pm!!) completing this painting. It was started on location (with PAPJC in Belford) and I had been very pleased with the beginnings of this one..but getting back to it several months later and working from the reference picture I took was a quite challenge. For one thing pictures are never true representations of the color, so what I saw on that bright sunny day appeared much darker in the photo. Anyway, its done & signed, looks pretty good even if I say so myself!

Marlu Lake, Thompson Park, Holmdel, NJ

This painting was started last summer, but just finished it!

I think it came out quite good..idea was to be spontaneous and not cover every little spot on the canvas to keep the scene fresh & bright. (Ask me about the creepy guy story associated with this painting!!)

Paintings done at Ozzie's class to be shown in May at a Student show

Bayonette Farm, Holmdel, NJ
Started en plein air, finished in the studio.
Very challenging this one as backlit scenes usually are - for me the appeal of this scene was the brilliant day with an interesting shadow of the barn forming a nice cool retreat. I love old structures anyway, and this is a beautiful barn!

Nikhita on the beach
Painted from a photograph in the studio.
Was drawn to her posture and the sunlight hitting her and making her squint! Very cute look!

Chanda in her condo with painting..thats where shes going to hang it..

Latest finished Paintings..

First commission for Chanda:
Her bottle-brush bush with humming bird "thrown in"!
Enjoyed painting under pressure, had to be done in time so I could take it with me to california, also had to be good and realistic based on the picture of the bush she sent me!
Anyway, most importantly she loved it!
